Description Purpose
This position provides support to the WV Robotic Technology Center (WVRTC) team for conducting work and research activities in the areas of computer science, information science, mechanical-, aerospace-, software- or electrical- engineering. Specific areas of interest are computer vision, robotics, mechanical design, programming, and software development. The incumbent works in a team setting to accomplish engineering duties and tasks for the development of On-Orbit Satellite Servicing and associated laboratory research activities. Incumbent applies technical knowledge and skills to work on a multitude of projects associated with robotics, structural design, programming, software development, and system solutions.

Duties & Responsibilities
Responsibilities are functional in nature, and performed under general supervision. Specific tasks include, but are not limited to:
1) Engineering design of hardware and software components to support WVRTC robotic research.
2) Operation of Computer Aided Design software for engineering development.
3) Manufacturing and integration of developed hardware and software to the system level.
4) Assist with general laboratory tasks, and field experiment project activities.
5) Make regular reports and presentation to the sponsoring agency.
6) Develop new research proposals related to the On-orbit Satellite Servicing area.
7) Confer with engineers and other personnel to implement operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information.
8) Operate computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks.
9) Perform detailed calculations to compute and establish manufacturing, construction, and installation standards and specifications.
10) Evaluate product data and design from inspections and reports for conformance to engineering principles, customer requirements, and quality standards.
11) Conduct research that tests and analyzes the feasibility, design, operation, and performance of equipment, components, and systems.
12) Maintain records of performance reports for future reference.
Review performance reports and documentation from customers and field engineers, and inspect malfunctioning or damaged products to determine problem.

Supervisory/Lead Role
This position reports to the Program Manager.

Physical Demands
Activities are predominantly non-manual though some manual work not directly involved with altering or transporting of products may be included. Job requires the ability to stand, walk, sit, climb up or down using hands and feet where body agility is emphasized, and balance to prevent body from falling on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. Job also requires manual dexterity and feeling to perceive the attributes of objects such as size, shape, temperature, or texture and the ability to reach hands and arms in any direction and stoop to allow the body to bend forwards or downwards which may require the full use of the lower extremities and back muscles. Job requires the ability to kneel, crouch, and crawl. The incumbent must also possess the ability to talk clearly and express or exchange ideas and instructions to workers, clients, or the public accurately, loudly, or quickly. Incumbent must have the ability to hear detailed information through verbal communication and make fine discriminations in sounds such as making fine adjustments on running engines.

Work Environment
The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as offices and labs. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. Exposure to mechanical parts, electricity, chemicals, and vibration. Incumbent is responsible to know and comply with all safety procedures.

Requirements Requisite Qualifications
Education and/or Experience
1) BS in computer science, aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, software engineering, or a related field;
2) Experience performing engineering-related tasks

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations
1) The candidate must hold U.S. citizenship or U.S. permanent residency

13) Knowledge and prediction of physical principles, laws, their interrelationships, and applications to understanding fluid, material, and mechanical, electrical, atomic and sub- atomic structures and processes.
14) Skilled at analyzing needs and product requirements to create a design.
