Operates transit vehicles on fixed routes providing safe, secure, comfortable services to users of the municipal bus transit system


  • Operates transit vehicles of various sizes for on-demand customers and over fixed routes in accordance with specific instructions, department policies and procedures and safety and service standards; provides safe, secure, comfortable services to users of the transit system in accordance with Department policy and procedures; assures the comfort of passengers, and assists guests with baggage and local information.
  • Performs daily inspection and cleaning of vehicles, reports any operational problems to the supervisor in a timely manner, and completes daily reports as required; assures that transit vehicles are operated in accordance with established protocols and schedules; assists with Gondola operations as needed.
  • Assures compliance with all applicable regulatory and safety requirements; assures safe, responsive and reliable transportation services are provided to employees, guests, and residents of the community.
  • Reports all unsafe conditions, accidents and injuries to supervisor immediately; completes required accident reports and first report of injury reports; wears the required personal protective equipment including wearing seat belts when operating any town vehicle
  • Reinforces the Town’s commitment to the environment by responsible use of electricity, natural gas, fuel, paper, water and chemicals. 

And all other duties as assigned.



High school diploma or GED AND experience working with the public in a customer service environment.    Must be 18 years old or older; bus driving experience is preferred.

Applicants will be required to undergo drug testing prior to employment and will be subject to further drug and alcohol testing throughout their employment.



Possession of a valid United States Driver’s License is required.

A Driving record search will be conducted on all applicants prior to employment and will be subject observation throughout their employment.



Knowledge of: Town and state traffic regulations and safety procedures;  municipal bus program standards and rules; geographic features and roads within the service area; Federal, state and regional public transit regulations and safety standards; radio and telephone communications protocols; Town policies and procedures.


Skill in: Operating transit vehicles in a safe manner, in compliance with all traffic laws, Town policy and procedures, and state and local regulations; reading maps and schedule information; reacting quickly to situations that could create safety and customer security problems; using courtesy and respect in providing customer service to guests; establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with employees and the general public.


Environmental Factors:

Work is performed  while operating transportation vehicles in variable weather conditions.


Physical Factors:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time; may lift/move up to 40 lbs.
