Description NATURE OF WORK:
Performs a variety of semi-skill functions in the maintenance and repair of the Town’s water distribution and treatment system to ensure the safety and quality of the Town’s water supply.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Operates, monitors, and controls the operational activities of the water systems and associated equipment such as pumps, disinfection equipment, electric motors, at wells, reservoir, and booster sites in accordance with department operating plans and procedures;
• Conducts inspections of the Town’s water system and related equipment including pumps and water tank; monitors water tank levels, water quality, and functioning of equipment; Locates and repairs leaks in water main and/or service lines.
• Obtains water and/or chlorine samples in accordance with regulatory requirements.
• Maintains and operates water system and water production equipment.
• Responsible for repair and maintenance on all types of valves, pumps and equipment including chlorinators, evaporators, and hydraulic valves, and fans; repairs raw water booster pumps and chlorine injection pumps used in the disinfection of water.
• Assists in repairing and maintaining fire hydrants, valves, and chlorine analyzers.
• Provides assistance to contractors, developers, and landowners in locating water and sewer lines; assists customers and/or the public regarding water related issues and complaints.
• Conducts inspections of new service lines, water main extensions, and/or meter installations.
• Reads water meters and reports usage for billing purposes; re-reads meters as requested.
• Performs service order work including turning on new service, disconnecting service for repairs, and changing out meters.
• Prepares and maintains a variety of departmental reports, records, and documentation.
• Provides assistance in shoveling snow and/or plowing roads.
• Reports all unsafe actions, conditions and injuries to supervisor immediately; completes required accident reports and First Report of Injury form; Wears the required personal protective equipment; Wears seat belts when operating any entity vehicle; Active participant in regular safety tailgate trainings
• Reinforces the Town’s commitment to the environment by responsible use of electricity, natural gas, fuel, paper, water, and chemicals.
Requirements MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or G.E.D. and two years experience maintaining/operating municipal water systems; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Applicants will be required to undergo drug testing prior to employment and may be subject to further drug and alcohol testing throughout their employment.

Licenses/Certification(s):
Ability to obtain Class D Water Plant Operator’s License & ability to obtain Class I Distribution License, and a valid Colorado State Driver’s License are required.
A driving records search will be conducted on all applicants prior to employment and the applicant’s driving record will be subject to observation throughout their employment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Knowledge of: Principles and practices of water systems operations and maintenance; regulatory requirements governing municipal water production and distribution; water sampling techniques and procedures; equipment and tools relative to water systems maintenance; departmental records and reporting requirements.

Skill in: Operating, repairing, and maintaining water systems equipment; assisting in ensuring the safety and quality of the Town’s water supply; repairing water leaks; reading water meters and assisting customers; maintaining accurate departmental records, reports, and documentation.
Environmental Factors:
Work is performed in indoor and outdoor environments with exposure to extreme weather conditions, machinery with moving parts, high voltage electrical currents, high pressure water lines, confined spaces, fumes, and hazardous materials/chemicals.
Physical Factors:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to operate heavy equipment, perform manual labor, climb ladders, and lift and/or move items weighing up to 100 pounds.
