Title General Ledger Accountant

Description The position works closely with firm leaders to analyze, communicate and account for financial and operational information in order to support and enhance the financial management of the firm. Those functions encompass recording, reporting, analysis, ensuring reliability of the Firm’s financial statements and management of expense transaction processing.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Management of General Ledger
• Prepares and posts journal entries
• Maintains the chart of accounts
• Ensures transactions are coded to the appropriate cost center and general ledger account
• Oversees and prepares balance sheet account reconciliations
• Assists the Chief Accounting Officer with the timely completion of the month-end and year-end close cycle
• Participates in the preparation of firm monthly financial statements and internal reports
• Performs financial statement review and account variance analysis
• Assists in the preparation of the annual budget and forecasting
• Reviews, researches and reports on variances of actual costs to budget to firm leaders
• Maintains firm fixed asset records and supports property tax return reporting

Management of Expense Transaction Processing
• Oversees the operations and supervises the work of Accounts Payable and Payroll
• Identifies opportunities for cost reduction and works with other team members to implement cost saving projects

Other
• Conducts special projects as assigned
• Monitors processes, establishing and enforcing policies and procedures
• Assists other Financial Management Department team members as needed
Requirements
Preferred Experience/Background/Skills
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Master’s degree
• Two years of related work experience
• Must be proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word and Office
• Exposure to Great Plains, Concur or other ERP software experience is a plus.
• Knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles)
• Evident practice of a high level of confidentiality and integrity
• Ability to work cross-functionally to resolve issues and collect information
• Ability to handle analysis from issue identification to proposal of potential solutions
• Ability to review accounting documents for accuracy
• Ability to successfully contribute to the strategic direction of the firm through innovation and continuous improvement
• Ability to effectively utilize technology and a commitment to learn in the technology environment
• Demonstrated initiative with commitment and ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines
• Strong project management skills
• Superior client service skills, including the ability to meet challenging internal client requirements and deadlines, strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Commitment to superior quality

Working Conditions
• The typical office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
• Ability to work extra hours as determined by the workload and internal client expectations
• Travel for this position is 5% or less
• Ability to sit for long periods of time
• Ability to speak English to communicate with clients, team members, vendors, etc.
