Under general supervision, provides day to day operations of new and existing SQL Server database instances. Installs, monitors, maintains, and performance tunes databases while ensuring high levels of data availability. This position is also responsible for implementing database policies and procedures to ensure the integrity and availability of databases and their accompanying software.


• Assists with database installations, upgrades, optimizations, design, modeling, and testing.

• Installs Service Packs and Security updates for SQL Servers

• Maintains user accounts and permissions for new, transferred and terminated employees

• Implements, monitors and reports on SQL Server Backup and Restore procedures

• Manages SQL Server jobs ensuring failures are resolved in a timely manner for business operations

• Performs change management requests, promoting approved items through the application development & QA environments to production in accordance with FirstCare’s change management methodology.

• Responds to and resolves database access and performance issues in a timely manner.

• Provides stored procedure development assistance.

• Reviews database objects, including views, triggers, stored procedures and execution time, and suggests efficiency improvements.

• Assists in implementing redundant systems, policies, and procedures for disaster recovery and data archiving to ensure effective protection and integrity of data assets.

• Monitors, optimizes and allocates physical data storage for database systems.

• Conducts research and makes recommendations on database products, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts.

• Provides status updates on all assigned tasks using the department’s service request tracking tool.

• Provide production support including occasional on-call and weekend work.



• BA/BS degree in Information Systems, Computer Science or related major required.

• Experience working with sensitive and confidential data.

• 1+ year working technical experience with designing, building, installing, configuring and supporting Microsoft SQL Server database servers.

• Hands on knowledge of administrating on a MS-SQL platform using SQL Server Management Server

• 2+ years of experience in creating SQL statements, triggers, and procedures with relational databases (MS SQL Server or Oracle).

• Ability to conduct research into database issues, standards and products as required.

• Knowledge of SSIS and experience in automating tasks with SSIS and SQL Server jobs

• Ability to read, write, and understand complex SQL queries and to utilize other SQL artifacts (such as Stored Procedures and Views); Performance tuning skills (SQL Query tuning) are a plus

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office product suite

• Excellent written and oral communications skills, and willingness to document departmental standards and procedures

• Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills

• Ability to work independently as well as in a cross-functional team environment by collaborating with others and sharing tools, skills, and knowledge

• Solid problem-solving and analysis skills that demonstrate resourcefulness and attention to detail.

• Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines, prioritize workload, manage time effectively, and work under pressure with minimal direct supervision
