Responsible for developing, testing and implementing HHSC EDI processes as well as providing guidance to lower level developers.


• Analyze, design, develop, test, troubleshoot, optimize, enhance and maintain HHSC EDI applications in various formats that include HIPAA standard formats such as 837 and 834 and other regulatory formats using EDI mapping tools.

• Create and maintain interfaces between applications systems and HHSC EDI transactions.

• Apply in-depth knowledge of systems and business to the development of technical design for large complex processes and projects.

• Evaluate HHSC requests for new and modifications to applications/programs/processes/maps.

• Maintain detail documentation and process flow of all HHSC EDI processes.

• Conduct research and make recommendations on ETL products, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts.

• Participate in project meetings, providing input to project plans and providing status updates.

• At the request of end users or management, research questions involving HHSC EDI applications and how the data is organized and populated.

• Provide status updates on all assigned tasks using the department’s service request tracking tool.

• Support end-user functional departments as requested by management.

• Follow existing source code management and version control processes for all coding efforts.




·         Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university

·         5+ years experience with advanced knowledge of EDI standards, documents, and software, such as Pervasive ETL tools.

·         5+ years database experience with MS SQL Server and/or Oracle

·         4+ years experience in healthcare industry with proven understanding of data terminology.

·         6+ years experience in desktop applications.

·         Clear understanding & working knowledge of HIPAA EDI protocols.

·         Able to generate HIPAA transactions using mapping application tool and data from claims payable system.

·         Strong appreciation of timeliness and the ability to multitask and accomplish assigned tasks within project timelines

·         Ability to work independently as well as in a cross-functional team environment by collaborating with others and sharing tools, skills, and knowledge

·         Solid problem-solving and analysis skills that demonstrate resourcefulness and attention to detail.

·         Strong customer service orientation.

·         Strong understanding of database design concepts and normalization

·         Excellent organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines, prioritize workload, manage time effectively, and work under pressure.
