In order to accelerate the growth of our new product portfolio, FARO Technologies is adding new positions in our Research and Development team.

We are seeking an FPGA Electronics Engineer for our Research & Development team in Exton, PA.

 

SCOPE:

Perform functions to design and implement new or upgraded electronic systems related to the 3D laser scanning measurement system, where only general methods are available requiring considerable initiative and ingenuity.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Assist in the development of FPGA based solutions for metrology systems.
  2. FPGA programming in VHDL
  3. Participates in cross functional new product development teams as an FPGA/Digital electronics design resource
  4. Support electronic and electrical component, circuit, and board design for high speed digital systems.
  5. Assist in performance testing for new FPGA/electronics designs.
  6. Assist in troubleshooting and determination of root cause for circuit design, board design, or fabrication failures.
  7.  Participate in lab testing of prototype metrology equipment and address FPGA performance improvements.
  8. Other FPGA/electronics design activities may be added in the future as business conditions evolve.

 

Requirements

HIRING PREFERENCES:

  • A minimum of a B.S. in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering
  • Recent or new graduates may apply

Technical Skills:

  • FPGA Design
    • VHDL (preferred) or Verilog
    • Xilinx (preferred), Altera, or Lattice
    • digital filtering
    • Experience with the FPGA firmware development process is a must; including VHDL code development, simulation, synthesis, and timing closure.
    • Basic troubleshooting and debugging skills.
    • Familiarity with digital circuit design and Boolean logic.
  • Good work ethic and willingness to learn
  • Matlab
  • Use of electronic test equipment (VOM, Oscilloscope, Logic Analyzer, Frequency Counter, etc.)

 PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Some lightweight lifting, and occasional lifting of average to heavy weight materials of over 60 lbs.  Occasional pushing, pulling, reaching, climbing and upper body and arm rotation. Some bending, stooping and standing. Continuous sitting.  Occasional use of hazardous chemicals

 

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:

VOM, Oscilloscope, Logic Analyzer, Spectrum Analyzer, Function Generator, Frequency Counter and TDR, plus various mathematical, graphic, electronic design and database software programs, computer and peripherals, and standard office equipment.
