Description Position Summary: The Academic Program Director (APD) for Criminal Justice provides vision, leadership, and sound management principles to ensure academic programs offer superior learning environments to a diverse student population. The APD collaborates with the campus Director of Education to ensure excellence in instructional delivery and program continuity, as well as student success, retention, and satisfaction. The APD is instrumental in developing and implementing updated and innovative academic programs by serving on campus and college-wide committees.
Major Responsibility Areas (MRAs)

MRA #1: Program Direction. Ensures excellence in classroom and student development activities to facilitate student acquisition of the personal, interpersonal and professional/vocational skills needed to be effective in the vocation he/she has chosen to pursue.
• Communicates with program instructors to ensure students and course needs are met according to program requirements;
• Monitors classroom and online activities according to program requirements to ensure students are engaged and encouraged and assists in developing and maintaining both personal and professional development;
• Provides learning resources and teaching materials, including textbooks and educational software that are appropriate and pertinent to the program requirements to ensure quality education;
• Provides guidance and mentorship on innovative delivery of instruction;
• Reviews student evaluations for all instructors in programs within the area of responsibility.
• Holds regular department meetings with faculty to ensure communication and buy-in on key strategic initiatives within the academic program and college as a whole;
• Ensures program faculty recognize and address differences in learning abilities of diverse student populations;
• Completes instructional observations in alignment with Daymar College policy and procedure guidelines;
• Ensures compliance with state and accreditor standards and regulations. Works with Campus Resource Center (CRC) academic personnel and Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs to ensure compliance with state, national, programmatic and accreditor’s standards and regulations;
• Leads development, management, and meetings of Program Advisory Boards in alignment with Daymar College policy and procedure guidelines.

MRA# 2: Student Relations/Student Mentoring Proactively manages and mentors students in their program for learning outcomes and career progression. Implements student contact strategy to advise on academic progress and career opportunities. Proactively mentors students and effectively supports students at risk of attrition due to poor attendance, unsatisfactory academic progress or other at-risk indicators.
• Engages in timely intervention with at-risk students when early signs suggest students’ lack of engagement;
o Interventions should be frequent, by email, phone, text, and in person meetings - must be documented in CampusVue.
o Communication to Director of Education when students exhibit early warning signs (such as lack of attendance, not meeting competency level expected, low grades, missing assignments or instructor feedback).
• Regularly monitors student academic progress via CampusVue, Engrade, Canvas, and communication with program faculty;
• Promptly (within one business day) responds to emails from students and faculty;
• Ensures that faculty in program are responding to student questions and concerns within 24 hours;
• Ensures that faculty in program are posting daily attendance and grades for assignments in a timely fashion not to exceed 72 hours;
• Monitors the amount of time instructors are allowing for students outside of classroom to address concerns;
• Advises instructors on best practices related to resolving student concerns and/or complaints;
• Coordinates student support activities with key stakeholders in other functional areas to connect students to appropriate resources to resolve personal and academic issues;
• Actively supports student placement activities through regular interaction with campus Career Services personnel.

MRA# 3: Campus and Community Involvement. Participates in campus and community professional activities and meetings in order to stay informed of current private and political events that will foster professional growth.
• Reads current professional periodicals and keeps abreast of current developments in field(s) of expertise;
• Attends job-related seminars and workshops;
• Maintains memberships in professional organizations;
• Assists in securing community leaders, knowledgeable professionals and employees to serve on the Program Advisory Board in order to create and maintain a positive and visible image;
• Attends graduation previews, graduations, meetings, and other school-related functions when possible;
• Keeps active in the community and seeks ways to attract community, business, and other special interest leaders and people to visit the campuses across the enterprise.
Requirements Required Education, Experience, Skills and Attitudes:
• A master’s degree in Criminal Justice is required, doctoral degree is preferred;
• Must have at least three years of documented teaching or training experience. Experience with online and/or hybrid learning models is preferred;
• Must have minimum four years of work experience in the discipline/program field;
• If the field requires special licenses or certifications, these licenses and certifications are required to be in good standing in the state of practice;
• Projects a professional image and provides outstanding customer service;
• Keeps commitments, meet deadlines and achieves outstanding results;
• Organizes and executes around multiple priorities;
• Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing;
• Maintains regular communication with direct supervisor;
• Speaks effectively to both large and small groups of people;
• Demonstrates excellent listening skills, to include listening not only for content but for motive;
• Cooperates and collaborates as a member of a team;
• Uses Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint to prepare and maintain records, correspondence, reports, and other data;
• Develops and presents educational materials in an engaging manner;

Physical and Mental Requirements:
• Physical Requirements: This job requires normal physical mobility, including the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. Normal hand-eye coordination; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp and lift up to 40 pounds, is also required.
• Mental Requirements: This job requires the ability to read, recall, write and understand information. This job also requires the ability to work under moderate pressure and to manage multiple tasks concurrently.
• Environment: This job is normally performed in a clean, well-lighted, heated and cooled office area/classroom.
