Description Position Summary: The Academic Coordinator of Clinical Education is responsible for coordinating the clinical education portion of the Physical Therapist Assistant program, and for course development and instruction in the program.


Major Responsibility Areas:

MRA #1. Clinical Education Program and Accreditation. Manages clinical education portion of PTA Program, and assists Program Manager to ensure academic curricula are current to meet accreditation requirements.

Duties:

• Works with Program Manager to develop program and curriculum to ensure compliance with CAPTE standards.
• Develops, monitors, and refines the clinical education component of the curriculum.
• Evaluates students’ performance, in cooperation with other faculty, to determine their ability to integrate didactic and clinical learning and to progress in the curriculum.
• Educates students, clinical, and academic faculty about clinical education.
• Selects clinical learning environments that demonstrate characteristics of a sound patient/client management, ethical and professional behavior, and currency with physical therapy practice.
• Provides documented records and assessment of the clinical education component of the curriculum.
• Maximizes available resources for the clinical education program.
• Advises students on academic and career issues as needed.

MRA #2. Academic Program. Assists with program and course development to ensure current and applicable curriculum. Provides instruction in the PTA Program.

Duties:

• Assists with development of appropriate curricula and assessment materials.
• Provides instruction in the PTA classroom and laboratory.
• Conducts assessments of instruction and course content on a quarterly basis.
• Assists with maintaining files for the program students in order to assure compliance with CAPTE requirements.
• Assists Program Manager with preparing and maintaining a Program Manual and a Student Handbook.

MRA #3. Regulatory Compliance. Assists other departments in the preparation and revisions of the Colleges manuals, regulatory applications and catalogs in order to provide accurate and current information for the College’s operations.

Duties:

• Assists Program Manager with preparation required CAPTE accreditation reports.
• Assists manager with accreditation matters.
• Assists manager in publishing the College’s catalog assuring all needed revisions are made.
• Assists in coordination of input from all stakeholders in updates and reports required of the program.

MRA #4. Student Services. Contribute to programs and processes that ensure students have a supportive atmosphere to complete their programs and obtain jobs.

Duties:

• Ensure that we provide a warm, friendly nurturing atmosphere where students can learn the skills required, to obtain the jobs they need, to have the lives they want.
• Maintains a student retention rate of 80%.

MRA #5. Institutional Effectiveness. In coordination with leadership team develops, maintains and reports on program Assessment Plan.

Duties:

• Assists the Program Manager in conducting teacher evaluations by students on a quarterly basis.
• In coordination with college staff, conducts student satisfaction surveys once per year.
• In coordination with Placement Office, conducts employer surveys once per year.
• Works with the Campus Director to ensure continuous improvement and quality for the College.

MRA #6. Administration. Assists the Academic Department with developing and implementing academic policies, programs and initiatives that facilitate academic communication, teamwork and involvement to maintain or enhance student learning environment and continuously improve the overall quality of procedures and processes within the Academic Programs.

Duties:

• Interacts with the Student Services, Admissions and Financial Services staff in a cooperative and professional manner.
• Assists the Program Manager in scheduling classes.
• Assists with preparation of students’ schedules.
• Assists with verification and completion of analysis of students’ satisfactory academic progress
• Assists with organization and planning of advisory board meetings.

Other duties as assigned.
Requirements Job Requirements: The following job requirements represent minimum levels of education, experience and competencies/abilities needed to perform this job successfully:

1. Education: Graduate of an accredited physical therapist assistant or physical therapist program, and is currently licensed to practice in any United States jurisdiction. State of TN licensure is preferred.

2. Experience: A minimum of three years of full-time (or equivalent) post-licensure clinical experience as a PT or PTA; a minimum of two years of clinical practice as a CCCE and/or CI, or two years of experience in teaching, curriculum development and administration in a PT or PTA program.

3. Competencies: Incumbent must (be) able to:

• Able to initiate, administer, assess, and document clinical education programs
• Able to work independently and coordinate work with colleagues and peers
• Able to travel, as needed

4. Physical and Mental Requirements:

Physical Requirements: This job requires normal physical mobility, including the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. Normal hand-eye coordination; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp and lift up to 50 pounds, is also required.

Mental Requirements: This job requires the ability to read, recall, write and understand information. This job also requires the ability to work under moderate pressure and to manage multiple tasks concurrently.

Environment: This job is normally performed in a clean, well-lighted, heated and cooled office area/classroom.
