Definition and Primary Objective:

The Credentialing Specialist’s primary job is to ensure that the personnel of a facility, mainly healthcare, are properly trained, licensed and certified as mandated by state and federal regulations. In addition, they ensure that all services offered by these industries meet standards set by state and federal government agencies. A Credentialing Specialist would review applications, verify both individual and facility accreditation, maintain records of verification and work with auditors as needed.

In many cases, the Credentialing Specialist maintain databases in which they would input new information or update existing information regarding employee training, licenses, education, continuing education and relevant job experience. Credentialing Specialists are sometimes referred to as Medical Credentialing Specialists.

This position also will have part-time billing duties that include a variety of administrative, technical and supportive assistance to the Accounts Receivable and Behavioral Health Service Departments.

Requirements

Minimum Education, Experience and Other Skill Requirements:

This position requires an Associate’s degree in accounting or related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience) and a minimum of three years billing experience with mental health, Medicaid and third-party insurances.  Current working experience in accounting/billing software and good spreadsheet skills required.  Knowledge of composition, grammar, and punctuation preferred as is knowledge of word processing.  The ability to multi-task and perform in deadline/stressful situations and to exercise independent judgment to accomplish tasks and to problem solve is essential.  Must possess minimum  technical skills including familiarity with Microsoft Windows and ability to use standard Microsoft Office applications.
