General Summary: Under the supervision of the Center Director, the Family Advocate will implement Head Start's comprehensive services: health, nutrition, mental health, disabilities, social services, and family engagement to families served
by Head Start (HS) and in collaboration with Early Head Start (EHS).
This postion work part-year from August until May or June
Successful candidates will need the following:
Bachelor's Degree in Family Studies, Social Work, Human Development or related field.
Must have ability to work effectively with a wide variety of parent from diverse economic and ethnic backgrounds
Ability to converse, write, and/or translate in Spanish or Armenian preferred.
Valid California Driver’s License, reliable vehicle, automobile insurance, and clean DMV record required.
Show ability to have flexibility, maturity of judgment, and ability to work collegially.
Must have strong organizational skills. Respect each individual, child, and family.
Experience working with families and young children.
Ability to maintain cooperative, diplomatic working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, families, and the community to work as part of a team, and collaborate with colleagues.
Ability to develop an environment that is free of disruptive influences.
You will have the opportunity to:
- Develop Individual Family Partnership Agreements (IFPA) to empower families to identify strengths and needs to set realistic goals for themselves and their family. Complete Family Assessment form (e.g. family needs assessment) to facilitate referrals, exchange
information and resolve issues and concerns. Follow-up on services to assure delivery is completed on a timely manner and addresses the needs of the family. Maintains confidentiality of children, families and providers involved in the program.
- In coordination with Center Director, the FA will facilitate the Center Committee Meetings and parent workshops. Work collaboratively with Center Director to ensure center needs are met. Attend staff, in-service workshops, and other meetings as required.
Works collaboratively with staff and community agencies to support the needs of families and children enrolled in HS and Early HS.
- Collaborate and establish effective communication with all HS/EHS program areas to ensure program services are being provided and implemented. Participate in Multidisciplinary Team Meeting, prepare and present case presentation. Conduct health screenings
of enrolled children (e.g., audio and vision). Maintains accurate records, input data and submit reports in a timely manner. Conducts home visits when needed to follow-up on progress or to make contact when other means of communication/contact are lacking.
Provides resource materials and support to parents and staff when needed. Schedules and conducts parent volunteer orientations.
- Schedule and conduct initial orientation and encourage families to participate in parent orientation, parent committee meetings, Policy Council and other parent activities. Monitors attendance on a daily basis. Collaborates with assigned Centralized Eligibility
Advocates to identify vacancies, completes Initial Intake of all interested parents. Assists with recruitment efforts within the community. Assists families with transition to kindergarten including providing kindergarten registration information.
