General Summary: Under general supervision the Specialist will provide referrals to parents seeking child care and technical assistance to families and child care providers.  The Specialist will assist in planning and implementing conferences, workshops, and training for internal and external clients, assist child care providers and parents with licensing issues and standards for quality child care programs, represent CCRC in community outreach projects.  The Specialist will plan and implement Lending Library programs and maintain and recommend improvements to library resources.

Keys areas of responsibility include the ability to:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of the CCRC Lending Resource Library 45%
  • Create and implement library related projects such as story time and other ongoing library outreach and training programs 20%
  • Maintain and ensure data integrity and accuracy for required databases 5%
  • Provide child care referrals to parents/community seeking child care 5%
  • Provide technical assistance to child care providers, parents and the community 5%
  • Build connections with and maintain resources within the community 5% (Community Resources & Outreaches)
  • Maintain records of program activities and track participation of participants 5%
  • Facilitate Child Development trainings for parents and providers on developmentally appropriate practices 5%
  • Work as a team member within the training area (i.e. serving on committees, planning and implementing trainings/workshops & conferences throughout the year, and providing support to other programs within the department) 5%

To be successful, you will need:

AA preferred or equivalent college semester units in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or a related field such as Human Development or equivalent experience or any combination of education and experience which would enable the candidate to successful perform the functions of the position.

  • Minimum two years’ experience in early childhood education/ child development
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of child development & developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Demonstrate leadership capabilities; ability to work as a team leader to implement program and agency policies and goals (one year supervisory experience preferred)
  • Excellent organizational skills, strong written and communication skills; ability to successfully interface with others
  • Bilingual preferred
  • Ability to be flexible and to adapt to the changing needs of the position
  • Ability to work a non-traditional work schedule, which includes nights and weekends
  • Ability to maintain cooperative, diplomatic working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and the public; work as a part of a team and collaborate with colleagues; complete projects under tight deadlines even when faces with completing obligations
  • Automobile, California driver’s license, California auto liability insurance and DMV clearance required.
