Title Substance Abuse Prevention Coordinator

Description The Substance Abuse Prevention Coordinator shall provide support in fulfilling the requirements for all Reserve Soldiers, Civilians and Family Members. The SAPC will be the key point of contact for the implementation of the Substance Abuse Services across the United States Army Reserve Command.

Annually the SAPC shall provide prevention training, Government will provide materials and SAPC can create slides to include the following:
• 4 hours for AGR Soldiers.
• 2 hours for TPU Soldiers.
• 2 hours (Drug Free Federal Workplace Program Training) for Civilian employees.

• Conduct 40 hour Unit Prevention Lead (UPL) courses
• Track all training conducted by each unit or directorate, as appropriate and report results into Drug and Alcohol Management Information System (DAMIS)
• Provide information briefings and executive correspondence
• Provide the Alcohol and Drug Control Officer (ADCO) with a list of all completed UPL training, prevention training, Red Ribbon and Yellow Ribbon training, as entered into DAMIS
• Track and maintain all soldier-related substance abuse data and services in DAMIS to include illicit and prescription positives and the completion of services including prevention education
• Facilitate and implement a Unit Risk Inventory (URI)
• Facilitate and implement Government provided Reintegration Unit Risk Inventory (R-URI) survey at the unit level
• Review and assess the latest in substance abuse research with respect to new, illicit and prescription drugs trends and results from URI/RURI and the Risk Reduction Program

Requirements Education Requirement:
• Bachelor's degree in behavioral or social science (e.g., sociology, psychology, counseling, social work), OR must be certified Drug Testing Coordinator (DTC)
• Certified Prevention Professional status through the Army Center for Substance Abuse Program (ACSAP) and/or the International Certification & Reciprocity Consortium (IC&RC) or demonstrating progress toward completion of the certification within 12 months of employment

Experience Level:
• Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience or an affiliation with U.S. Army Reserve with a minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience

Required Qualifications:
• Major duties demanded of the SAPC require skills in budgeting, office automation, conflict management, curriculum development, presentation skills, and leadership development
• Expert knowledge of substance abuse effects and symptoms and their impact on the lives of substance abusers and their families
• Knowledge about the Army Reserve Substance Abuse Program and the ACSAP
• Comprehensive knowledge of effective substance abuse prevention methodologies, training program design, and instructional skills – that is, to be able to design, develop, and administer targeted group-oriented Alcohol and other Drug (AOD) prevention education and training programs
• Knowledge of military command structure, missions, programs and organizational relationships, ideally that of the Army Reserve
• Knowledge about local, state and national, community-based resources and agencies, specifically schools serving military family members, civic organizations, and military organizations
• Knowledge of the UPL certification training program
• Knowledge of Army Substance Abuse Program (ASAP) Administration
• Knowledge of Prevention Education and Coordination
• Expert skill in oral and written interpersonal communication

General Office Demands:
• Must accurately record your daily timesheet per AFSC’s Timekeeping Policy

• Must be able to operate general office equipment including but not limited to: computer, phones and related media and information devices on most or all workdays

• ability to communicate and interact with others, both in person and/or by telephone to conduct business

• Working under time pressure

• Working rapidly for long periods to meet deadlines

• Must be able to travel as needed and adhere to AFSC travel policies and procedures.

• Must be able to enter private homes that may or may not provide easy access for those with physical disabilities or those recovering from physical rehabilitation or post-recovery mobility.

• Position requires ability to transport self from office locations to private homes, other offices and facilities where training and other program activities occur.

• Physical requirements can typically be characterized as active: Lifting, bending, sitting on the floor, climbing may be required in the position. Requires lifting or moving various pieces of equipment, maximum 40 lbs. Position may require work on hands and knees to conduct program activities.
